New Beginnings

New Years is a time of new beginnings. New resolutions, new goals and plans, a time for looking forward. New Years 1965 was the date I first met my future wife. Now that was a new beginning! What does a new year look like? Blank sheet of paper.

Seasons: I am in one or starting a new one. I may be eager for change or want to hold onto the old season, but change will happen nonetheless. Spring, summer, winter, fall are all reminders that seasons are part of life. New Years is a reminder of change, of new beginnings.

Eph 4:24 Put on the new man. Isaiah 40:31 “But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”

Mat 1 Genealogy of Jesus lists 42 generations from Abraham, 42 fathers. How many mothers? Aside from Mary only four: Tamar (Gen 38) Rahab (Joshua 6 Philistine) Ruth (Ruth 1 Moab) Bathsheba (2Sam 11-12 Hittite) outsiders, rejected, second class, bottom of the food chain. God can take our mess and make greatness.

Making a new beginning:

  1. New creation in Christ 2Cor 5:17 Understand who you are in Christ. Changed my life. Rom 8:1 no condemnation. Gal 2:20 Crucified with Christ, Christ lives in me. Galatians 6:15 Msg “Can’t you see the central issue in all this? It is not what you and I do. It is what God is doing, and He is creating something totally new, a free life!”
  2.  New thinking Mat 9:17 Put new wine in new wineskins. Think the way the world thinks and you get what the world gets. Rom 12:2 renew your mind by the Word Ezek 36:26 God will replace a heart of stone with a new heart and a new spirit. Do you really want to experience change? Then you must let God do heart surgery.
  3.  New destiny Rev 2:17 Jesus gives us a new name, a new destiny. The inheritance of the overcomer. Rev 12:11 by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony. Phil 3:13-14

John 10:10 “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Let this new year be a time of new beginnings, new destiny. My prayer is that you will look back years from now and remember 2011 was a new beginning for you, the year you stepped into abundant life.
