Get Ready

Dec. 7, 1941 Pearl Harbor

Sept. 11, 2001 World Trade Center

Sucker punch – sophomore year.

Surprise attack can take down a stronger opponent. 1Peter 5:8 seeking whom he may devour. Sober, vigilant. Clear-minded, alert. Get ready. No surprises.

1Samuel 17 David and Goliath  David was prepared.

Know the challenges you will face. Three basic areas:

  1. The World – Circumstances of life. Joseph thrown into the pit or falsely accused of rape. Flat tire. Computer crash. 2Cor 11:23-27 Paul had circumstances. David didn’t just face Goliath; his brother and Saul as well.
  2. The Flesh – Passions and desires Gal 5:19-21 gives a list. But we have been made alive. 1Cor 9:27 Discipline your body. Romans 13:14 Put on Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh. Pornography is not an option. Fornication, adultery, drugs. Negativism, laziness, gossip, pride. Everybody say “Ouch!”
  3. The Devil – Fear, doubt, confusion, deception, inferiority, insecurity, guilt. 2Timothy 1:7 God has not given us a spirit of fear. Devil gets too much credit.

Goliath wasn’t going to go away. He had to be faced. Mental battles: brother, Saul, Goliath. Winner on the inside before winner on the outside. Loser inside/ loser outside.

 Get ready:

  1. Gather the facts. The Holy Spirit can’t anoint an empty head. “Oh, I’m just lead by the Spirit, brother.” GOOFY!!
    1. Be aware of the devil, but not fearful. Eph 6:11 stand against the wiles of the devil. Use the armor.
    2. Have a clear objective. Find out God’s will and do it.
    3. Select the best plan of action. David selected his sling and 5 stones. God will put His super on your natural.
    4. Follow through. Just like baseball or golf.  If David had stopped after he bopped Goliath? Gen 11:31 Terah left Ur of Chaldees for Canaan but settled in Haran. Perseverance. 1Cor13:7 Love endures all things. 1Cor 15:58 Our labor is not in vain. Gal 6:9 “Let us not grow weary in well doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
